My Internet Haunts

I haunt several sites on the internet.  Here’s a list for you, and a little description:

SOCIAL SITES:

  • Facebook
If you send a request, be sure to write a note telling me who you are.  I do not accept strangers.
  • MySpace
As above, and I very rarely use this.  Only to check out music artists and send support.  I also run Keedie‘s Official MySpace.
  • Twitter
I have a profile on this, but I don’t think anyone I know is on this.  I mostly log in to check up on Jonathan Ross, who seems to update his Twitter every five seconds.
  • Visionary Dictionary
A UK based social site only just starting up.  Basically share ideas and predictions for the future, and people either agree or disagree, and start discussions on the topic.

MEDIA SOCIAL SITES:

  • Last.fm
A music-based-social-radio-network-site.  This is by far my favourite website.  Ever.  Basically, you sign up, and then anything you listen to on your computer or on your iPod is converted into stats.  If you want to know who you are listen to more than others, that’s a start, but this is so much more.  It has community groups, personalised radio, a recommendation systems, reviews, journals, and so much more.  Of course, every artist has there personal profile and their own stats, along with concert dates, etc.  I also have an old and unused profile on here.
  • Rate Your Music
You basically rate music and document your collection on this site.  Has a good recommendation system, and once it knows you well, predicts how much you will like an album with an alarming amount of accuracy.  The more you contribute to the site, the more weight your ratings carry.
  • ClassicalX
A large website specifically for Classical Crossover music.  You can contribute to the site, but there’s not much to do here other than read and take part in the forums.  I was at its launch, but do not use it as much these days.
  • Library Thing
A book site.  I was happy when I first found this, but there’s not much to do really other than document your collection, ratings and discussing books with others.  I have a profile, but I have no updated it in a long while.

FAVOURITE WEBSITES

  • SB2K – A UK Sarah Brightman Fansite
  • Sarah Brightman – Official Sarah Brightman Website
  • Emilie Autumn – Official Emilie Autumn Website
  • Sparklan – My friend’s LAN parties website
  • Wikipedia - Very useful for looking something up quickly
  • Sparknotes - This website got me through my degree.  Don’t lean on it too heavily, kids!
  • YouTube – I do not post my own videos, but it’s a very useful site for numerous reasons.
  • HWI – Hayley Westenra Internatinal (great forum)
  • Keedie.info – My friend’s Keedie site
  • Amazon.co.uk – Have written reviews for this site since 2002.  Some are incredibly embarrassing, but I keep them there to document old tastes and bad grammar.
  • Wings of the Osiris – My friend’s photography skillz
